Using System Rollback

System rollback is a Passport 4400 feature that protects the unit from potentially damaging configuration and/or application code changes. When system rollback is enabled, a five-minute timer starts running each time a code or configuration bank status change is made and a system reset is performed. If a confirm rollback confirm command is not entered through Configurator or at the CLI prompt before the timer expires, the application software and/or configuration data automatically revert to the previous versions that were in the committed state before the reset occurred.

System rollback is initially set to disabled at the factory. This is because both application code banks initially contain the same version of software, and both configuration memory banks are initially empty. Therefore, there is no previous configuration or application code to revert to.

The following procedures show the use of system rollback on a Passport 4400.
