Customer Support Bulletin

CSB-9907002

Released: 7/22/99

Subject: 1298SF (DJ1404073) with 1.3.1 will not recognize ARU3 modules

Product: 1298SF CPU for Accelar 1200 and 1250

Description:

This CSB was written to inform customers of a problem that may exist when using some DJ1404073 1298SF Accelar 1200 or 1250 CPU modules with ARU3 modules. The 1298SF CPU modules manufactured prior to 5/10/99 (date code 9919) were loaded with version 1.3.1 which will not initialize ARU3 line modules.

Discussion:

All CPU modules manufactured prior to 5/10/99 were loaded with version 1.3.1, or less, of the operating code. A 1298SF CPU module loaded with version 1.3.1 allows the CPU module to initialize an ARU2 line module but will not initialize an ARU3 line module. In order to use ARU3 modules, the CPU software version must be at least 1.3.5.

Resolution:

If you have a 1298SF CPU module with version 1.3.1 on it and plan to use it with ARU3 modules, the quickest method for resolution is to upgrade the CPU software to 1.3.5 or greater (2.0 is presently required to take advantage of the ARU3’s IPX capability). The procedure is described in the document "Upgrading to Accelar 2.0 Software" (Part Number 206077-A). The document and version 1.3.5 software are both available for download from http://support.baynetworks.com.
