Accelar 1200 will not boot, "fails to read Seeprom" errorNumber: CSB-9803004Released: 4/1/98Subject: Accelar 1200 will not boot, "fails to read Seeprom" errorProduct: Accelar 1200Description:When initially booting the Accelar 1200 switch you may receive the error, "fails to read seeprom" from the CLI. This error prevents the switch from booting. Discussion:When attempting to boot the switch, the error occurs because a trace on the backplane is shorted to ground by one of its support brackets. Only backplanes manufactured by TYCO will have this problem. The backplane manufacturer cannot be identified but the faulty units will have a serial number range from 21000 to 21280. The serial number sticker on the backplane is visible from the front opening when the cards are removed. You can also issue the "sys show info" command from the CLI, to display the serial number. Original units may only have 4 digit serial numbers and are unaffected. Here is an example of the error output seen on the CLI when attempting to boot the Accelar 1200: Bay> boot Booting from [flash:1] on-board flash memory... Resolution:All units having the TYCO backplane are being reworked at the factory to resolve this problem. An insulating material is being applied to the backplane between the exposed trace and the backplane support bracket. If you should receive a unit that exhibits this problem, RMA a new chassis unit (order # DJ1402001).
