Number: CSB- 9803002

Released: 3/27/98

Subject: 12xx Accelar Series 100 Intel PCMCIA 4 Mbyte Flash

Product: XLR1200, XLR1250

Description:

Bay Networks has discovered that customers using some of the Intel 100 series PCMCIA 4 Mbyte flash 5 Volt Operation may not be able to access the flash media to copy files or format the flash. A limited quantity of XLR1299PC cards shipped from Bay Networks are the same type and experience the same issues.

Discussion:

The problem is due to the Accelar 1000 series 1.0 software being unable to recognize the different internal device type parameters within the PCMCIA flash. Intel is shipping the PCMCIA cards with the same part number (iMC00FLSC-10 ) but with different internal device type parameters. The initial PCMCIA flash card had only one device type parameter, which was recognized by the 1.0 software. Flash cards shipped from Intel also use a second device type parameter, not recognized by the 1.0 software being shipped on the software CDs.

Resolution:

Customers who are experiencing this issue can up grade to the Accelar 1000 series software to 1.0.1 to resolve this issue. The software release 1.1, scheduled to ship during the beginning of April 1998 will also contain the resolution for this issue.
