Bent pins on Accelar 1200 backplane

Subject: Bent pins on Accelar 1200 backplane

Product: XLR1200, XLR1250

Description:

Bay Networks has discovered a potential issue with the XLR1200 chassis and XLR1250 chassis. Customers installing the Silicon Switch Fabric (CPU) module into these chassis have the potential of causing pins to be bent on the chassis backplane when inserted incorrectly.

Discussion:

Due to the high-density connectors of the SSF module, extra care is required when inserting the SSF module (Model #XLR1297SF) or any I/O module into the chassis. The SSF or I/O module should be squarely aligned with the chassis card guides and slowly inserted into the backplane. This will reduce the chance of bending any pins on the chassis backplane.

The pins affected are not always the same so the symptom of failure may vary. If the SSF or I/O module fails to boot, inspect each slot of the chassis backplane for bent pins. Also inspect the high-density connectors of each module as well.

Resolution:

If bent pins are present RMA the chassis by contacting your reseller or Bay Networks Technical Solutions Center.
